Global Communications Coordinator (Summer 2018)

The Position 

This position is for highly motivated and passionate individuals who value experiential education and international travel, and have strong verbal and written communication skills. Global Communications Coordinators are responsible for providing travel updates to our students’ families, collecting information and photos from all of our Program Leaders, and maintaining Rustic Pathways social media accounts for the country where they work, and providing other marketing related support that may include writing blog, email, or print copy, choosing imagery, or conducting research.  

Depending on the destination country, Global Communications Coordinators may work directly with our students, communities, or activities’ operators. This role includes administrative support, email account management, organizing program logistics, and some degree of leading program activities. Global Communication Coordinators represent Rustic Pathways and support our in-country teams in a variety of ways. You have the opportunity to engage with amazing communities and influence the lives of our students and their families from all over the world. 

 

Responsibilities 

You work with a team of Country Managers and Program Leaders who are focused on student safety and responsibility. You facilitate and ensure positive experiences for our clients as you do the following:  

Write and send email communications to clients from remote and challenging locations.  
Coordinate with Program Leaders to collect group photos.  
Maintain a Rustic Pathways Instagram account. Must be able to select  images, write captions, and post to the site.  
Write copy for various marketing projects (may include blog, email, print, ads, etc.)  
Depending on the country of employment, you may be asked to take on additional administrative or communication responsibilities. 
Depending on the destination country, you may be asked to take on additional program leading responsibilities.  
Follow and implement all safety protocols during interactions with students and all program activities. 
Manage and communicate day-to-day logistics, finance, administration, and group dynamics. 
Represent Rustic Pathways in all communities where we visit and work, and embody Rustic Pathways’ mission and values.  

 

Job Qualifications  

Years of Experience: 1-3 years of experience working in communications, marketing, or editorial industry and at least 2 years of relevant experience working with youth in a leadership or mentorship role.  

Education: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Business, or related field OR a combination of education and work experience.  

Requirements 

Must be 22 years of age or older by May 30, 2018. 
Professional working proficiency in English. 
Must have a useable laptop and smartphone. 
Must be able to attend a virtual, online training before departing to destination country  
Basic CPR and First Aid certification required from a licensed provider. Classroom or in-person training only. Online certifications are not acceptable. Certifications must be submitted 3 weeks before staff training.  
Must be able to attend virtual marketing training May 14 - 18, 2018
Fluency in Spanish required for Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, and Peru destinations.  
Experience in the following areas:  
Communications, marketing, or editorial. 
Study abroad or extended international travel. 
Demonstrated experience working with youth (camp counselor, teacher/professor, outdoor educator, leadership instructor, etc.). 
Blogging, social media, visual design, or photography experience is a plus, but not a requirement. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills. 
Personal experience in international travel (as student, leader, or for pleasure). 
Patient, enthusiastic, analytical, and solution-oriented. 
Proactive and independent, able to self-advocate and work alone. 
Able to maintain excellence under pressure and ever-changing conditions.    

Flights, meals, accommodations, transportation, and a small stipend are included as part of the compensation package while working in country.
