The Position:

Program Managers work directly with our students, communities, activities’ operators, and other program leaders in our destination countries on open enrollment, gap year, and group travel programs intermittently throughout the year for up to 6 to 10 weeks at a time. Program Managers represent Rustic Pathways and mentor our students as they lead them through outdoor adventure activities, community service projects, travel accommodations, transportation from one place to another, and down time.

What you do:

  • Engage with students to deliver the Rustic Pathways program experience by adhering to RP curriculum guidelines and activity standards.
  • Ensure program logistics are executed smoothly and consistent with Rustic Pathways’ program standards.
  • Proactively work to safeguard the health and well-being of students and fellow staff.
  • Monitor and manage student well-being and respond calmly to student issues as they arise.
  • Respond to medical incidents as they occur.
  • Other duties as reasonably assigned.

What we look for:

  • 1-3 years of experience leading and working with high school students as a teacher, coach, camp counselor, community service coordinator, non-profit professional, adventure guide, or other similar industries.
  • Valid driver’s license and CPR & First Aid certification required. WFR/WFA, Ocean Lifeguard, Water Rescue, Teaching License/certificate preferred.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in English required. Fluency in Spanish required in addition for work in Costa Rica
  • BA/BS from an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience with some college.

Work and Environmental conditions: 

  • This position is based in a remote setting in one of our country destinations. This person is often driving and traveling with students. The work pace is continual fast pace where work is required for more than 4 hours at time. Low supervision from managers with infrequent prompts. Travel is required up to 25% of the time for moving to program sites daily.
  • This position requires such physical abilities as lifting up to 20-100 lbs sometimes, standing, kneeling, climbing, crouching, pulling, pushing, sitting, twisting, and walking in an outdoor setting. Other physical attributes include hearing students on the phone and speaking to them constantly in person.
  • The environment in which the job is performed outside may include exposure to extreme temperature, noise, heights, or other hazards. All remains the same for any additional requirements for training, protective clothing, or monitoring.
